Senior managers in any organisation need to put in place ways in which knowledge can be organised and used for business advantage.

This involves several different activities:
- Capturing information - All relevant information needs to be in place; for example, when there is an emergency or when a key individual moves out of the organisation.
- Generating ideas - Employees, regardless of their role or level in the organisation, can be encouraged to come up with new ideas (for new products, new services, different ways of doing things, etc); for example incentives can be offered for bright ideas that lead to business improvement or money saving procedures.
- Storing information - Information needs to be stored and then made excess of ball in where's that are fast and convenient, depending on an individual's entitlement to access.
- Distributing information - Individuals need to be discouraged from hoarding information, so that its benefits can be enjoyed by everyone needs access to it.
